Meet the Principal

My name is John Grzywack, and this is my 14th year as principal at Upton Elementary.  It is truly an honor to be able to serve our families in this capacity.  This is my 28th year in the school district serving as both a teacher and as an administrator.

I have really enjoyed getting to know the families of Royal Oak and serving in this role.  Upton is a special community.  We strive to create a family-like atmosphere that is focused on the well-being of all members of our community.  We believe all students can achieve and help them to grow academically and socially.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach me at [email protected] or at 248-549-4968.

Sincerely,

John

Our school hours are Mondays-Fridays from 8:25 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Students are let in the building at 8:20 a.m. Students should be in their classrooms by 8:25 a.m. Any student arriving after this time is considered tardy. All late students must be signed in at the main office before going to class. Tardiness disrupts the classroom and students coming in late miss directions for the day. All absences should be called in to the Safety Check number. Absences that are not reported are considered unexcused.

Safety Check number 248-549-4968 option #1

VISION

The vision of Upton Elementary School is to inspire students to become lifelong learners.

MISSION

Our mission is to prepare students to lead in a rapidly changing world, empower them to persevere through challenges, and to think critically with empathy, compassion and integrity. The Upton community will achieve this mission by:

  • Engaging in professional development to meet the needs of our diverse learners through visible thinking routines and culturally responsive practices.

  • Creating opportunities for staff and students to collaborate within our learning community.

  • Providing a safe and engaging environment that allows ALL students to succeed to their full potential.

*

Do not forget: If your child is going to be absent, it is extremely important that you call in to our Safety Check Number 248-549-4968 extension 1 by 8:25 a.m. to let us know! Calling the school will help us know that your child is safe and will classify the absence as excused versus unexcused.
